From the FACES OF DYNÓW series:

Avraham Neger Family
oil on canvas, 48 x 42 inches

Avraham Neger was my great grandfather. He was the youngest of the five Neger brothers. In partnership with three of his brothers they were in the kosher butcher/cattle trade in Dynów. Avrahm had eight children with his first wife Taube, who died of Cholera in 1914, on the way back home from a year away, after fleeing from running away from a pogrom. Shortly after his return home, without his wife, he re-married Rywka and had five more children with her. His first-born child from his first wife, my grandmother Bella, came to the U.S. before the war in 1921. The second born, Mila, survived the Warsaw ghetto, and emigrated to Israel after the war. From his second wife Rywka, Chaim and Sam survived the war. Three of the children died in childhood, and six were murdered in the Nazi invasion.
